In harmony with nature.

Green Home Building

Rufty Homes built North Carolina’s very first green HEALTHY HOUSE™ back in 1994. This health conscious, environmentally sensitive residence set the standard for green building innovation in our state.

The HealthyHouse was a green building joint venture in cooperation with the American Lung Association and the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, now the Home Innovation Research Labs. The very next year, in 1995, we also constructed Carolina Power & Light’s first EnergyStar residence in the state. By the early 2000s, we had completed the state’s first Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety Fortified For Safer Living® home.

This early commitment to innovative residential construction has led to advances in healthy living and sustainable green building, establishing Rufty Homes’ reputation across the Triangle and nation-wide. Long before green building became fashionable, Rufty Homes was established as the state’s foremost advocate for sustainable luxury residences.

Since the early 1990s, the Rufty team has partnered with like-minded organizations to establish unique green building processes that feature innovative technologies to foster healthy living, energy savings and resource efficiencies. These health initiatives demonstrate new ways to educate consumers, builders and realtors about available green building products and their health benefits in residential construction.

It helps that our core team has remained largely intact over three decades. Rufty’s leadership in these areas has encouraged fellow builders in our community to aspire to sustainable and healthy home construction.

Green building also means that every Rufty home is exclusively designed to the lot so your residence exists in harmony with nature. Exceptional privacy and spectacular views are trademarks of our craftsmanship. Homes typically feature unique courtyards, breathtaking patios, and driveways that frame striking, original residential designs. All aspects of your home are carefully considered, from interior design to landscaping and family space specifically designed for the way you live.
